Personal Finance: What’s your net worth

3 min readFeb 17, 2025

How do you keep track of your net worth?

You may have invested in multiple asset classes. If someone asks you, or rather, at some point, if you ask yourself .. what’s my net worth? How do you answer that?

I have tried multiple apps and it did not work fully for me. Either it lacks custom data and calculations I need to have or sharing my PAN details and consent to allow provider aggregate data.. it still does not give me a omplete picture that I need.

I decided to create a simple spreadsheet so that I have full control that meets my requirements. The key asset classes I have considered are

  • Saving accounts
  • Fixed deposits
  • Public provident fund
  • Employee provident fund
  • National pension scheme
  • Gold
  • Mutual funds
  • Equity investments
  • NCD

The view I am interested is what’s my current net worth, how the investments would grow over a period of time assuming certain ROI. I of course, have to put manual efforts at the end of financial year to reconcile between projected values and actual values, such that any amendments can be done. I am willing to do that, because doing it makes the numbers stay with me all the time.

To make it more interesting, I have included expense heads where you can record your actual expenses. Of course…
